Core Job Responsibilities
- Pipeline Management: Design, implement, and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines specifically tailored to the Salesforce platform.
- Version Control: Enforce Git-based source control branching strategies (e.g., branching, merging, and resolving conflict issues across development environments).
- Environment Governance: Manage and refresh various Salesforce environments, including developer sandboxes, scratch orgs, and production instances.
- Automation & Scripting: Automate metadata tracking, package building, validation, and testing using tools like Salesforce DX (SFDX) and scripting languages.
- Quality & Compliance: Integrate automated static code analysis, code coverage reviews, and automated unit testing into the release pipeline to verify deployment health.
- Rollback & Monitoring: Establish rollback strategies for quick recovery from failed deployments and track DevOps performance metrics like change failure rate and release velocity.
Key Technical Skills & Toolsets
- Salesforce Native Tools: Deep understanding of the Salesforce Metadata API, Salesforce DX (SFDX), and the newer sfcli
- DevOps Ecosystem Platforms: Hands-on experience with generalized CI/CD orchestrators like GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or Jenkins.
- Dedicated Salesforce Release Tools: Proficiency with specialized third-party Salesforce release management tools such as Copado, Gearset, Flosum, or AutoRabit.
- Core Salesforce Knowledge: Solid grasp of the Salesforce platform's data models, Apex/Triggers, Flows, and system limitations to troubleshoot package and metadata dependencies.
- Scripting Languages: Familiarity with Bash, PowerShell, or Python to automate custom workflow tasks outside of pre-packaged release tools.
